Hades Will be Added to Haunted Mansion, to Become 3rd Attraction in Villains Land

ORLANDO — Walt Disney Imagineering announced Wednesday that the Haunted Mansion will be “enriched” with Hades from Hercules, completing the company’s long-running project of taking a classic attraction that needed nothing and giving it a recognizable face from a mid-tier 1997 cartoon.

The refurbished mansion will officially count as the third attraction in Magic Kingdom’s new Villains Land, a name Imagineering praised internally as “bold, clear, and already printed on every permit.” Officials confirmed the land will sit just beyond Big Thunder Mountain and will now treat the 1969 ghost house as a natural gateway, despite earlier models suggesting the two would remain separate.

“Guests have always wondered who the 999 happy haunts really answer to,” said Senior Vice President of Narrative Alignment Chad Brimley. “It turns out the answer is a sarcastic Greek god with blue flames for hair. The stretching portraits now depict Hades’ last performance review. The hitchhiking ghosts have been rebranded as unpaid interns from the Underworld. Madame Leota is still in the crystal ball, but she works for him now. It’s cohesive. It’s cinematic. It’s merchandisable.”

Imagineers described the overlay as “light-touch storytelling.” The Doom Buggy narration will be replaced by Hades complaining about the commute from the River Styx. The graveyard jamboree will feature Pain and Panic on backup vocals. The infamous “Foolish Mortals” line will be recut so Hades says it first, then the Ghost Host says it again, then a third time over the exit.

“This is how you honor Walt,” Brimley continued. “You take something atmospheric and original and you bolt a movie character onto it until a six-year-old can point and say, ‘That’s the guy from the streaming thumbnail.’ That’s stewardship.”

Disney Adults responded immediately and without coordination.

“This is a DISGRACE,” posted @MansionPurist1969, who has ridden the attraction 4,812 times and owns a replica of the original stretching-room wallpaper. “Hades is from 1997. The Mansion is timeless. They might as well put Lightning McQueen in the ballroom. I will never set foot in Liberty Square again. I am currently in line.”

“Finally, representation,” wrote @UnderworldStan. “Hades is queer-coded, hot, and funny. The old mansion was just a bunch of dead white people floating. This is progress. I pre-ordered the flame-hair ear hat.”

“I don’t care who they put in there as long as the queue still has the interactive graves and I can get a dole whip after,” said Tampa resident Kevin Mullins, standing outside the attraction in a 15-year-old Dri-Fit. “Is the AC still broken in August? That’s my only note.”

A fourth guest, identified only as “the guy who explains the original unused scripts to strangers,” said the change proves Imagineering “doesn’t understand negative space” and then recited the entire unused sea-captain backstory until security asked him to move.

Park leadership remained upbeat.

“Villains Land needed a third ride and the Mansion was just sitting there being mysterious for no monetizable reason,” said Imagineering creative director Paige Holloway. “Now when you exit you’ll walk straight into a Hades meet-and-greet where he sells you a $24 ‘Not So Fast, Hercules’ slush. The story writes itself. We wrote it in a two-hour meeting.”
